Vanessa Farinha

Vanessa Farinha is an Artist and Producer who also works as Creative Director of tech company Motive. 

Her work is often driven by the labels that we or others attach to our identities. She’s intrigued by how we change our focus on the categorisations of our identities particularly when they’re under attack, and how we feel loss when barriers are formed and exclusion occurs.

Working in a range of media driven by an idea, she often creates situations that involve audience interaction or collaboration with other people. Her performative work began after a course in Italy with Marina Abramovic at age 18 whilst on the summer holidays of her teaching assistant job. She then completed a Fine Art BA at Goldsmiths College whilst working full-time at Apple.

Vanessa moved on to co-create The Nothing Productions, a company producing films with fine art sensibilities. Here she worked with artists like Iain Forsythe & Jane Pollard, Zineb Sedira, Amie Seigel and Nick Cave. She also continued to create work involving archive film as well as advertising content for brands like Netflix and BBC Storyworks.

Vanessa is currently developing projects that consider the tradition of singing for loss and for protest.
