Maria Paul

Maria Paul graduated from Hope University, Liverpool, with a B.A Honours in Creative and Performing Arts.  

She also studied at Edge Hill University and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Maria’s passion derives from both personal experience and her background in Community Arts and youth arts.

As a Director and Actor she has created both dramatic performances and installations, on the issues of mental health and domestic violence (including for Nwoko, the drama company which she both founded and Directs) 

Nwoko Arts  received a 4 star review  from the Guardian last year for the  stage play Sweet Mother that documented the lives of four white women who had in marriages Liverpool 8. She is also working on her new stage play The Triangle that will explore the issues that young people faced 10 years after the uprising in Toxteth. 

The play questions how far we have come in combating racism and inequality with a focus on young people and children today.

Maria delivers workshops in the community that inform and empower children and adults from marginalised communities.

She has worked extensively in schools, colleges, libraries and universities on the subject of Identity.

Maria has been commissioned  by Curious Minds and Liverpool learning partnership on a number of projects in schools supporting young people through arts based projects.
