Cara Macwilliam
Cara Macwilliam is a self-taught, disabled, visual artist. Living with a highly stigmatised Illness informs a lot of her work. She is passionate about breaking down the barriers to the mainstream art world that working class, self-taught and disabled artists still face.
She works from a purely automatic process, and although her work is usually whimsical it has a much deeper message to portray of life as a disabled person. There is flow, energy and movement in her work, everything she says her illness has taken away.. She likes to draw the viewer in and get them to reflect, hoping to open up inherent bias in a gentle, playful way.
In 2021 she started to become more recognised and has her “Energy Drawings’ showing at the 30th anniversary of The Outside Art Fair in New York, March 3-6th 2022 and has had two pieces acquired by The College of Psychic Studies, London for their permanent collection.
